Bran Castle, (AKA Dracula's Castle) is an old fortress built in the 14th century. It has traded hands between owners many times due to shifts of power. At the end of WWI, Romania inherited much of the Transylvania region (previously under control by Hungary) and the Royal family took ownership of the castle. It was Marie of Romania's favorite private residence, and she ordered for it to be renovated.

When the communist regime took power in 1948, the Royal family was kicked out. The Romanian government inherited the property after the fall of communism, and in 2006 the castle was finally returned to descendants of Marie of Romania.
